“Road 38” – A Visual Narrative of a Civilization Along the Road
“Road 38” is a documentary conceived and directed by Mohsen Oliaei, exploring one of Iran’s historic and influential routes. Stretching 158 kilometers from Tehran to Buin Zahra, with most of its length passing through Alborz Province, this road has long been part of the historic Silk Road, witnessing countless caravans and giving rise to a rich civilization along its edges.
The film captures the economic, cultural, historical, geographical, and religious attractions that have flourished alongside this road. Viewers will encounter the geo-tourism and eco-tourism wonders of the region—from the colorful hills of Eshtehard and the desert to the Shur River and ancient stone houses. Key economic sites such as the Eshtehard, Kowsar, and Eshtehard 2 industrial towns, as well as historical and religious landmarks like the Safavid caravanserai, the Kharaqan towers, Imamzadeh Zeyd and Rahman, ancient castles, and numerous archaeological hills, are also featured.
The documentary adopts an informational-educational approach, emphasizing visual and formal aspects. With minimal narration, it relies on image, sound, effects, and music to convey its story. The omniscient narrator is the language of the image itself.
